A. Reading (25 Marks)

1- Read and match:

Pupils are given (6) words (Column A) and (5) pictures (Column B). Pupils match the words with the pictures. (10 Marks. 2 marks each )

2-Look at the pictures, read the sentences and circle Yes or No.

Pupils have to look at ( 5 ) pictures with ( 5 ) sentences and have to write Yes or No.

3-Look and write(10 marks)

Pupils are given (4) pictures and (4) words with two missing letters in each word.

Pupils write the missing letters . (10 Marks — 2½ marks each)

Pupils are given (4) pictures. Pupils write the words for them.

5- Copy the following sentence in good handwriting. (5 Marks)

Pupils are asked to copy a sentence of not more than eight words.

A dialogue, similar to the types of the Set Books, with three (3) deletions is provided. Pupils are asked to fill in the deletions with key words from a list of Four (4) words. (2 marks each)

2-Choose the correct answer from a. b. or c (5 Marks)

Two (2) mini-dialogues are provided. In the first, the response is deleted, and, in the second the stimulus is deleted. Pupils are required to choose the correct answer out of the three (3) options given in each item. (2½ marks each)

A text of about Fifty (50) words is provided. Most words and all structures in the text should be from the Set Books. Pupils are asked to answer two (2) open-ended questions and two (2) MC questions with three (3) options each. (2 marks each)

C-Usage & Writing (21Marks)

5-Choose the correct answer from a. b. or c : (9 Marks)

Six (6) MC items (3 vocabulary & 3 structure) based on the material in the Set Books are provided. Pupils are required to choose the correct answer out of the three options given in each item. (1½ mark each)

6- Look at the following pictures. then write a sentence describing each: (6 Marks)

Three (3) clear and expressive pictures are provided. Pupils are asked to write one meaningful sentence describing each picture. (2 marks each)

D-Punctuation and Handwriting (6 Marks)

7- Punctuate the following sentence: (4 Marks)

A sentence of about Seven (7) words, without Four (4) punctuation marks, is provided. The pupils are required to punctuate the sentence correctly. (1 mark each)

8- Copy the following sentence: (2 marks)

The pupils are asked to copy a sentence of about Ten (10) words.

These questions should test the following reading comprehension skills:

• extracting information • giving the main idea

• understanding reference • guessing the meaning of vocabulary in context

C Usage & Writing (17 Marks)

5-Choose the correct answer from a, b, or c: (8 marks)

Eight ( Cool

multiple-choice items (4 vocabulary & 4 structure) based on the Set Books are provided. The students are asked to choose the correct answer from the three (3) options given. (2 marks each)

6-Read and correct the underlined words: (4½ marks)

Three (3) sentences, with an underlined error in each, are provided. The students are required to correct the error in each sentence. (1 ½ marks each)

7-Look at the picture and write three more sentences: (4½ marks)

A clear expressive picture is provided. The first sentence is provided in fill. The students are asked to write three complete sentences bearing on the picture with the help of given clues (a word for each sentence). (1 ½ mark each)

D-Punctuation (1 Mark)

8-Punctuate the following sentence: (1 mark)

A sentence of about ten (10) words, without four (4) different punctuation marks, is provided.

The students are asked to punctuate the sentence correctly. ( ¼ mark each)

they may use. The first sentence is provided. The students are asked to write a short paragraph of four (4) sentences bearing on the picture.

D Punctuation ( 2 Marks)

9-Punctuate the following two sentences:

Two sentences of not more than ten (10) words each are provided. Each sentence is written without four (4) punctuation marks. The students are asked to punctuate each sentence correctly.

This can be a short story, a factual text, a table or a letter. Most lexical items and all structures in the text should be from the Set Books.

The students are required to answer three (3) open-ended questions and three (3) multiple-choice questions with four (4) options each. These questions should test the following reading comprehension skills:

* extracting information * giving the main idea

* understanding reference * guessing the meaning of vocabulary in context

A text of about Seventy (70) words is provided. The first sentence is written in full. Six (6)words are deleted (all vocabulary). Students are asked to write the word which best suits each space. (Half a mark each)

C -Reading Comprehension( 7 marks)

5-Read the following passage, then answer the questions: (7 Marks)

An unseen text of about 180 words is provided. This may be a story, a factual text, a letter, an e-mail or a dialogue. Most vocabulary and all structures should be from the Set Books. The students are asked to answer Four (4) open-ended questions and three (3) multiple-choice ones. (One mark each)

These questions should test the following reading comprehension skills:

• skimming and scanning;

• inference: vocabulary in context-implied meaning;

• extracting information;

• critical thinking;

• understanding reference (e.g. pronouns and other reference words); and

• expressing a personal opinion (e.g. Do you think---? Why/why not?).

D-The Novel (7 Marks)

6-Answer the following questions( 4 marks)

The students are asked to answer two questions only out of four questions

( 2 marks each):

a-four open-ended questions

b-two quotation questions with three questions based on each question( students answer one quotation only ( 3 marks )

The questions should test the students’ understanding of the plot, incidents and characters in the two short stories assigned for each term. (one mark each)

E- Writing (8 Marks)

7-a-Write a paragraph of Seven (7) Sentences about-:

The students are asked to write a paragraph of seven sentences about a topic appealing to their age, interests, likes, aspirations, etc. The title of the paragraph should be self-explanatory (i.e. easy to understand) No guidance is given.

OR

Write a letter! an e-mail to:-

The students are asked to write a personal letter or an e-mail. The topic of the letter/

e-mail should be self-explanatory (i.e. easy to understand). The name of the sender and addressee should be mentioned.

8-F-Translation (4 Marks)

a-Translate into Arabic: (2Marks)

Two (2) separate, short meaningful sentences are provided. Students are asked to translate them from English into Arabic.

Translate into English (2 Marks)

One short meaningful sentence is provided. Students are asked to translate it from Arabic into English.

The translation question aims at testing the students’ awareness of the areas of conflict between the mother tongue and target language.

(Total: 50 x 4 =20 Marks for each term)
